Celebrating women in animation
In the spirit of International Women’s Day, I am happily celebrating the success of recently completed productions, Bloomers and The Flounder, made by two incredible women animators – Samantha Moore and Elizabeth Hobbs, who worked with renowned composers Malin Bång and Carola Bauckholt respectively. These films were made for Klangforum Wien’s project ‘Happiness Machine‘, that brings together ten female composers with ten female animators to make new films. That’s twenty hugely talented creative women, all collaborating on one project.
The films have their screen debut on 16 March, and will fittingly be presented by Tricky Women, the only festival in the world that focuses on women animators. Tricky Women was also instrumental in the selection of many of the animators involved in the project, and we are all grateful to Waltraud and Birgitt and their team for their support with the project.
Watch this space for news on when we will be screening the work in the UK. In the meantime here’s a lovely ‘making of’ video, which gives a glimpse into the painstaking process that Sam employed to create Bloomers, made by Helter Skelter Studios who assisted with photographing the fabric that the film is printed onto (as pictured in the film still above).
For more information about the other women collaborators, and upcoming events, take a look at the Happiness Machine website.
