The Flickering Darkness (Revisited)
Today Unlimited Festival launched at the Southbank Centre. The only visual arts piece to receive a Major Project award from Unlimited that you can experience at the festival is The Flickering Darkness (Revisited). I have been working with its creator Juan delGado and an amazing production team to produce a new version of a work first made in 2009 as the result of a residency Juan undertook in Bogotá, Colombia.
The work reflects on the journey food takes at the colossal Corabastos market, and the invisible hordes of workers transporting, preparing, selling and consuming a wealth of colourful agricultural produce. It’s an immersive, vibrant and meditative work. Do check it out, and the host of other excellent works in the Unlimited programme, before the festival ends on Sunday.
