Underwire Festival – call for submissions
It’s that time of the year again when we open submissions for Underwire Festival.
Underwire is not just a feminist festival, its mission is to support female talent and showcase the very best creativity across the filmmaking crafts. I am always blown away by the talent we screen at the festival each year and the successes the alumni filmmakers go on to achieve in their careers. (Look out for the release of Nasty by horror doyenne Prano Bailey-Bond at some point in 2015). And every edition we award a range of prizes from our partners to aid the professional development of these skilled filmmakers.
We also welcome male directors to share their work with us if they want to promote their excellent female crew members, or else if they have created credible female characters on screen they can be in the running for our XX Award. Geoff Bellhouse’s tender portrayal of a young care worker in Anita, which was nominated for the XX Award last year, is a great example of this.
If you have a short film of any genre that is under 20 minutes and has either a female character at its heart or was made by a female director, producer, writer, cinematographer, editor, sound designer, composer or actor, then consider submitting it to Underwire before 31 July.
